![]() How cool and exciting! We made it to Oxford with just enough time to have a quick walking tour with our guide, time to stimulate the local economy, and grab picnic #2 for the day. As we regrouped and prepared for departure to Oxford, two young men walking in traditional attire with beautiful walking sticks passed in front of our coach, having clearly never met a stranger, Rowan found out that they were from Germany and were traveling around the UK utilizing public transportation and hitchhiking. Again, such a smooth process and you can’t go wrong with Rowan’s suggestions. We had the best weather of the month thus far and what a great day to be at Stonehenge. Sitting in the front row, we had a birds-eye view and never once did my heart skip a beat. Glen drives his coach like each of are members of his family. We were able to have a cold picnic on the coach and this allowed us to maximize our time, hitting all the highlights suggested by our guide. Mind your watch or you run the risk of being left behind. Timing is everything in a tour like todays. ![]() She regaled us with some of the most interesting stories as we waited in queue. The provided VOX box made it easy and pleasant to hear Rowan’s melodic voice and direction. These 2 should be held up as the standard for customer service! Once we were sorted and settled on our coach, Rowan clearly and concisely got through the requisite housekeeping details and we were on our way to Windsor. We met our guide for the day, Rowan and our driver, Glen. The man at this gate was quite polite and directed us out of the terminal after supplying us with pink bracelets. We were directed to a most surly female employee who abruptly directed us to gate #0. Others waiting had blue wristbands which we did not. Our pickup directions for Victoria Coach Station indicated gates 1-5, we found #2 labeled as Evan Evans and thought we were in the right spot. Many of the works of art are still in the historic settings for which they were first collected or commissioned by the kings and queens who have lived at Windsor. The Castle's State Apartments are furnished with some of the finest works from the Royal Collection, reflecting the changing tastes of the Castle's royal occupants, particularly those of Charles II and George IV. Occupying over 10.5 hectares, the Castle offers a varied day out for visitors, including a visit to the magnificent State Apartments and St George's Chapel. It has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years and is today one of the official residences of His Majesty The King. Towering over the rest of the town is Windsor Castle, the ancestral home of the English and later British monarchy, and largest inhabited castle in the world. The town of Windsor is best known for its historical links to the British royal family, and it is suitably steeped in pageantry and history. Conclude your tour with a relaxing drive back to your original departure point. Follow your guide on a walking tour around the Old Town and hear of the city’s history. Continue your journey to Oxford, a beautiful city home to Britain’s oldest and most prestigious university. Choose to view Stonehenge from outside if you wish, capturing photographs of the mystifying monument from a variety of vantage points. Explore the ring of stones protruding from Salisbury Plain and opt to purchase an entrance ticket for an audio-guided tour of the landmark. ![]() Return to the coach to soak up more scenery on the drive to the UNESCO-listed Stonehenge. Browse the shops for souvenirs or enjoy a refreshing cup of English tea in a local cafe. Alternatively, take some free time to explore the charming streets of Windsor. Listen to audio commentary and catch a glimpse of the Changing of the Guard ceremony if your visit coincides with the daily performance. On arrival, show your pre-booked ticket or pay your entrance fee (depending on the option selected) and step inside to see the opulent chambers shrouded in history. Depart from Victoria Coach Station in an air-conditioned coach and travel to Windsor Castle, an official residence of Queen Elizabeth II.
